Lucian Freud

He was a British painter. Known mostly for his thickly impastoed portrait and figure paintings. His works are noted for their psychological penetration and their often discomforting examination of the relationship between artist and model.

His style was very painterly and rough. He used thick and bold brush strokes to create his paintings and to give them a very messy look. His paintings have a lot of darker shadows and the colours are saturated vs desaturated. He used a lot of oranges, greens, yellows and browns in his works and rarely colder colours.
